The Option for the Poor and Human Dignity
In the second half of the autumn term we are think about the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of The Option for the Poor and Human Dignity. The children have been thinking about the importance of showing Love, Kindness and Compassion to those most in need. They have been learning the meaning of the word EMPATHY and think in particular about Homeless people. We have talked about ways to help the Homeless through giving them food (if accompanied by an adult), smiling and saying hello and by writing prayers to ask God our Father to bless those with little or nothing.
' For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in: Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.'
' And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.'
Matthew 25: 35-36 and 40
We have put up a tent in our Central Prayer Area so that the children can consider what it would only have a tent as your home, with no comforts or basics such as electricity, water or heating. The children have been writing some prayers to raise awareness of the Poor.
Below are examples of the work that we have been doing in class:
