Summer 2024
In Butterflies class this half term we have been focusing on Fantasy stories and characters, including fairies, pirates and dinosaurs. We spent a week reading the story of Supertato, and had to investigate as various vegetables were tied up in our outdoor area. Our class toy was taken by the Evil Pea and we completed lots of fun activities to get him back. We wrote letters to fairy tale characters and wrote lots of descriptive sentences.
As part of our fairy themed week, we used butter and sprinkles to make a slice of ‘fairy bread’ each, which we enjoyed for snack.
Our role area became a pirate ship, where we enjoyed steering the ship, making our friends walk the plank, making flags and following treasure maps.
We celebrated Science week and excitedly invited our parents and carers into school to take part in some experiments. We enjoyed making bubble mounds, exploring magnetic materials, planting cress, we made a skittles rainbow, and we identified waterproof materials.
In RE we have been learning about the Ascension and Pentecost. We completed lots of crafts, learned and retold the stories, and we shared cake to celebrate the birthday of the church. In May, the special month of devotion to our Lady, we took part in a service and procession where we laid flowers in front of a beautiful statue of Mary.
In Maths we have been focusing on adding, subtraction, doubling, halving and sharing. We have recalled number bonds to 5 and 10, and we have been exploring the composition of numbers to 20.
Towards the end of the half term we enjoyed our first visit to the library. We walked to Tye Green library and borrowed some books to share with our families.
